Experience New England in autumn

New England travel

The US is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, yet many of us head for the more conventional, locations within this vast country, like Florida, Miami, New York, and California. While these are all amazing, there is so much more that the US has to offer. This includes New England during the autumn. When autumn leaves begin to turn russets, reds and golden yellows as autumn approaches, the countryside looks great wherever you are. However in New England, it’s truly a magical, once in a lifetime site to behold, as billions of leaves change from green to a kaleidoscope of bold, vibrant, scarlets, golds, yellow and purple, ablaze and sweeping across valleys for miles on end. Best of all these sites are totally free, aside from your travel and accommodation of course!

And if you’re a true nature admirer, check out these stunning USA national parks to visit in spring.

Explore the ancient homes of the gods, Angkor Wat, Cambodia

Angkor Archiological Park is without a doubt one of the world’s most important archaeological sites and home to 1000’s of the world’s most unique and significant temples, culminating in the world’s largest ancient religious building, Ankor Wat.

At the centre of the Khmer empire for more than 500 years, it still remains the spiritual heart of Cambodia today. The area stretches across 400 square kilometres around Siem Reap where you can take your pick of the spectacular array of temples, some of which are being reclaimed by nature with dramatic tree roots and vegetation growing through on and around the structures. Some of the most spectacular and beautiful temples include Bayon, Ta Prohm, Beng Mealea, Koh Ker, but there are 100’s of others to choose from slightly off the beaten track.

Visit Machu Picchu in Peru

Visit Machu Picchu

There are a lot of places worldwide that claim to be must-see destinations for before you die, but Machu Picchu really is a destination that deserves to be on the list for you to experience in person. Machu Picchu in Peru, is one of the 7 wonders of the world and words literally cannot do it justice. This lost city of the Incas was actually relatively unknown until around a century ago, meaning that much of the original architecture remains in place and untouched. What’s more, with the Huayna Picchu Mountain situated on the site, and rising almost 1000 feet above the ruins of this ancient city steeped in history, your experience here will almost feel other worldly.

Peru in itself is a beautiful part of the world, so you can see why people flock here in their droves every single year. Prepare to take numerous photos as Machu Picchu is among 20 most scenic places in the world to photograph.

Witness the migration of the wildebeest in the Serengeti

If you’re a fan of nature documentaries on the TV, a certain David Attenborough will almost certainly have caught your attention in the past, as he documented one of the most amazing phenomena in the entire world.

The phenomena in question is the migration of the Wildebeest every year, in the Serengeti, Africa. This National Park is one of the most famous in the world, due largely to the fact that every May around 1.5 million stampeding Wildebeest seek refuge on dry land in the Maasai Mara and make their way across the Serengeti at break-neck speeds. Even if you visit at other times of the year, the region is littered full of majestic animals you would ordinarily only see in zoos back home. Yet here, they roam free in their natural habitat.

Wherever you chose, research carefully in advance to get the best out of your once-in-a-lifetime trip and include checking the latest travel advice of the FCO so you stay safe and prepared for your amazing trip.
