New Zealand healthcare is a highly developed system provided both by government and private institutions. Not so long ago the whole system was based on government hospitals and services only, but the market is changing rapidly and nowadays we face a perfect mixed private-public system for delivering healthcare. There are over a hundred high level and trusted hospitals in New Zealand. The largest of them are still funded by government institutions. It is considered to be the main hospital of New Zealand. Christchurch Hospital is the largest tertiary, teaching and research hospital in the South Island. It was founded in 1862 in the Christchurch city. The hospital is a public institution that is famous all over the country. Its emergency department is the busiest in New Zealand because it treats more than 65,000 patients a year (170+ patients a day). The hospital provides a lot of services: from ambulance to complex surgeries.

The most prominent hospital of the Auckland region was founded in 1947 in Manukau City. Its outstanding achievements are plastic surgery and orthopedics.
