Snowboarding in South America

Travellers Stories

We bought Globelink travel insurance for a three month trip for snowboarding in South America last year. We hired a camper van and explored the stunning national parks of Chile and Argentina, climbing numerous volcanoes and hiking in the forests to find good snowboard descents. The views over the Andes mountains and volcanic peaks and wilderness areas were incredible and the snow was pretty good too!

My favourite climb was Volcan Quetripilliyan where the ascent took us through beautiful lenga forests filled with birds before we reached the high plateau. After a long climb on soft snow we reached the icy peak and then enjoyed a long ride back down on our snowboards.

We also visited Patagonia and hiked in the Torres del Paine and Fitz Roy national parks which were beautiful and quiet in the early spring. The mountains soar out of the steppe plain and there are some great camp sites and hiking trails to explore the scenery.

Globelink insurance covered all our sports activity needs and was one of the few affordable policies we found to cover us as UK residents but who had been living abroad in the EU for a while. We did not have to claim but the telephone service when buying the policy was helpful.
