Globelink Travel Insurance News

As COVID-19 travel restrictions gradually lift, we can begin daring to think that we may achieve that last minute get-away to our favourite beach spot, or city break. Before you do, make sure you get Annual Travel Insurance with Globelink and get covered for COVID-19 at no extra cost. If you buy before 1st August, you’ll get free Emergency Medical and Repatriation cover if you contract COVID-19 while on your insured trips. As long as you’ve followed the terms and conditions of the policy and complied with entry rules of the country you’re visiting and relevant travel advice of the FCDO, WHO and your local Government.

What’s covered with Coronavirus travel insurance?

Getting Coronavirus travel insurance gives you the peace of mind that you’re covered for emergency medical expenses, including compulsory quarantine, and essential tests and necessary medical repatriation while overseas with the pre-authorisation of the Assistance Service.

If you develop COVID-19 while you are away, call the 24 hr Emergency Assistance Service and they can guarantee medical expenses directly with the hospital or clinic. Other costs deemed necessary by the Assistance Service medical officer can also be authorised, such as accommodation costs where COVID-19 means you are subject to compulsory quarantine rules that take you beyond your original pre-booked trip and accommodation dates.

Be aware that while new policies cover emergency medical expenses, our insurers, like other Travel Insurers, have applied certain COVID-19 Travel Insurance Exclusions - so you’re not covered for other claims resulting from Coronavirus, such as Cancelling your trip before travel, or trip disruption while away.

It’s important that you check the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) and your local Government Advice and that of the location you plan to visit regularly before you book and before you travel, as this could change. Your policy may be made invalid if you do not comply with their requirements for your trip.

There are a whole host of reasons why you might need to claim on travel insurance while you are away, which are nothing to do with Coronavirus – for example if you have an accident while travelling or your luggage gets stollen.
