If you’ve got the winter blues, why not hop online, find the best travel insurance you can, and start looking for your dream holiday. And why not put off coming home a bit longer and plan a long-stay trip instead? If you’re struggling for ideas, here are some alternatives to the usual long-stay holiday destinations to consider.
First on our list is the Andes. Peru is a backpacker’s dream and is arguably among the more popular long stay holiday destinations on the planet, but it’s so special that we had to keep this one on our list! The Andes is the longest continental mountain range on the planet and the highest mountain range outside of Asia. Take your pick of several thrilling South American countries to explore, whether you opt for Peru and its infamous Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca and the Amazon rainforest, or Ecuador for one of the world’s most outstanding wildlife experiences: the Galapagos Islands, or Colombia’s coffee plantations, vibrant colonial towns, and colourful markets. If you have a keen interest in hiking, you will be in your element in the Andes. Dry season here runs from June through to September and the summer weather is actually very pleasant, which will make your hikes that little bit more enjoyable.
