Early this year we had an extended holiday in Florida, we flew to Orlando but only stayed there long enough to pick up our car. We were based in a golf villa just north of Tampa. The complex was fantastic, it had a clubhouse and restaurant, tennis courts and a great pool. However, as lovely as this was we did not spend all of our time there.
Our first trip was to Tallahassee the Capital and University town, a vibrant city buzzing with students. The History museum and Government buildings were not to be missed. From there we moved east to St Augustine the oldest city in the USA full of cute shops and restaurants.
My birthday was spent soaking up the sun in Fort Myers Beach, drinking cocktails and listening to live music. On the way back to our villa we visited Sarasota and took in a show. Such a memorable birthday!
After relaxing in the villa and a few rounds of golf we spent some time wandering around the Nature Coast and Tampa Bay area, seeing manatees in Crystal River, dolphins in the Gulf and a live mermaid show in Weeki Waachi Springs. The Gazparilla Festival in Tampa was an event worth seeing, the Pirate parade, live music and loads to eat and drink all made for an exciting day with a difference.
This was only part of what we did on our extended holiday. We had a fantastic time discovering Florida that is not in the holiday brochures, all done with peace of mind knowing we were fully insured with Globelink.
