Travel Insurance Tips

One of the most anticipated things to do during the summer months is the yearly family holiday. But before you get too excited dreaming about frolicking in the beach or screaming to your heart’s content at theme parks, be sure to learn some safety tips for summer vacation. Buying travel insurance before leaving home also protects you against unforeseen expenses brought by cases like illnesses, missed flight, or lost baggage.

Arriving at the hotel

Arriving at the hotel

The moment you arrive at your hotel, the first thing you have to do is to familiarise yourself with the establishment’s evacuation procedures. You can check out the emergency exit routs of the hotel. You may also need to ask the hotel management about safekeeping of your valuables in case you decide against bringing these items outside the place you have been accommodated.

Renting a car

Driving in foreign countries may be an experience you’d like to have, but it can also be challenging because of the difference in traffic conditions, regulations and road markings. If you intend to drive in a foreign country, make sure that you are well-prepared for this task. As much as possible, ask for a car without the logo of the rental company. You don’t want to be identified as a tourist by the locals, and make you a target of unscrupulous individuals.

Store phone numbers that you can call in case of emergencies like the police and the hotel where you are being accomodated. You should also avoid driving for long hours because a tired driver is more prone to causing accidents. Park safely all the time, and park your vehicle in well-lit areas.

Travelling with kids

Even if you have travel insurance, don’t take any chances especially with your children. When going around, keep an eye on them all the time. You can teach the big children basic things like the name and address of the hotel you are staying. Don’t go around town holding items that might draw criminal’s attention like cameras, bags and jewellery.

Staying in the sun

Travel sun protection

Since it’s summer, expect the sun’s rays to be harsh and punishing. The ultraviolet rays of the sun not only can squash your energy but also severely damage your skin and eyes. Wear protective clothing like long-sleeved shirts and use sun block lotion to protect you against excessive UV absorption. Don’t forget to wear and use these things even on a cloudy summer day as the ultraviolet rays can still go through the clouds and cause damage to your body.

Drinking water

If you are traveling to less developed nations, then be more wary about your personal hygiene and selection of food. Water quality may not be reliable when you are in a developing country so never drink tap water. Buy bottled water instead. If you really need to use local water, then boil it first before consuming it.

These are just some of the things you need to keep in mind when you are on a summer vacation. These tips should lessen your chances of getting sick, or figuring in an accident. Thus, you won’t have to call your cheap travel insurance provider later on.
