The summer is over and winter on its way, but it’s not too late to take a break. Autumn is a great time to travel as there are less tourists and lower prices and you can still catch the sun if you escape to one of these sunny destinations. You can enjoy the beaches and scenery without the crowds and without those peak season prices.
#1 Turkish Beaches
Just over a 3 hour flight from the UK, Turkey will still provide plenty of sun this autumn. Enjoy the stunning beaches of Fethiye, or the beautiful, pine-fringed, mountain-backed lagoon of Ölüdeniz (Dead Sea). Or visit Side’s fine white sand beaches and explore the old walled quarter or the stunning Roman theatre still used for concerts today. If you prefer a bit more activity, go rafting in Kemer or Antalya, or skydive in Ölüdeniz, or sample the night life of Bodrum. Don’t forget the of Top 10 Exotic Foods to Try in Turkey

#2 Have You Been to Cyprus?
Flying here may give you time for nap, as it takes 4 hrs 30 mins from the UK. Cape Greco offers a peaceful haven for travellers and has a spectacular rocky coastline, crystal clear waters and the Cape Greco National Park offers some stunning walks. Alternatively enjoy the golden sandy beaches of Serna Bay, Protaras or Konnos Bay Ayia Napa. A great option is to get a 4x4 and come to Lara Bay, in the Akamas peninsula. The trip here is well worth it.
#3 The Balearic Islands
If you want a shorter flight, these Mediterranean islands are just 2 hours 20 minutes from London. Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and tiny Formentera are a great set of islands to escape to. If you love snorkelling, es racó de s’arena (the sand corner) is your perfect place to go. A tip for you, most people in touristic areas will speak English, or some French and German, but if you manage to learn a few words in their Balearic dialect (or failing that, Catalan, or Spanish) it will be greatly appreciated by the locals.
At only 2 hours 15 minutes away from the UK, San Giovanni Di Sinis could be your favourite destination. Found on the west coast near Cabras, you can reach this beach by scooter or car and cheap accommodation is available nearby. There is the option of scuba diving at Rena Bianca, which is a great beach for photography lovers with its breath-taking contrasts between rock formations and soft watery blues. You can book a hotel in Santa Teresa di Gallura, or chose from the many villas to rent.
#5 The Algarve
Hop on a plane and travel under 3 hours and you reach an established, popular destination for beach lovers. Portugal’s sun continues well into October, reaching highs of 25 degrees Celsius and only 8 days of rainfall on average. Check out Praia do Camilo, to bask in the sun you will have to walk down through the beautiful 70 foot rocky cliffs (via steps), which offer stunning views along the walk down. Praia de Odeceixe is voted as one of the seven wonders of Portugal, which makes it’s beach a must-see. In Praia do Barril there is an anchor graveyard for those who love photographing nautical curiosities.
This is a long established destination for autumn sun but you can still find peaceful retreats in this sunny spot. Avoid the huge hotels, and opt for rural accommodation and since it is an island, the beach is never far away. It will only take you about 4 hours 30 minutes to get there.
#7 Rota, Spain
If the rich history of Spain appeals to you visit the mediaeval town of Rota. It is located in the extreme north of the Bay of Cadiz and looks out onto the Atlantic. You can visit the Botanical Garden Celestino Mutis and the chameleon colony in the tropical gardens near Rota. Take full advantage of the biking trails through the nearby National Parks and to enjoy the Medieval atmosphere of this town. Explore the 16km of beaches in the area or view this gem on foot. Delight your palate with their typical Andalusian cuisine. Feel good about stay knowing that Spain is one of the 8 Countries That Will Teach You to Eat Healthier
