London, UK, February 2013 – Globelink International Travel Insurance is pleased to announce the results of its poll highlighting the most dangerous countries and the least dangerous countries in Europe in 2012 ranked by travellers.

The survey was based on Globelink's own poll which gleaned more than 200 travellers' responses, many reflecting first-hand experience, and over a period of two months.

Reducing the perils travellers often face

According to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), the dangers travellers may face range from pickpocketing and theft to natural disasters and terorism. As a partner in the FCO's "Know Before you Go" campaign, Globelink is concentrating its 2013 efforts on helping travellers reduce the risk of experiencing whilst on holiday.

According to the Globelink poll, the top 10 European countries that are considered to be most dangerous countries for travellers are:

European countries that were ranked as the 10 safest countries for travellers in Europe are as follows:

The poll reveals some obvious contradictions regarding the safety status of such countries as Spain and the United Kingdom. It's a reminder that some familiar destinations contain hidden dangers, and travellers cannot afford to be complacent . The ranking highlights the importance of taking appropriate precautions according to the country you are visiting. Always keep your wits about you when you go abroad.

Travellers aged 66 and over should be extremely careful because they have a tendency to put their lives in danger most often. Travellers aged 46-65 were the most active respondents, indicating that this group care most about their safety and are willing to take necessary steps to protect it. Travellers aged 26-45 are less concerned about their safety, and their response rate was 40% lower than that of the 46-65 age group.

To summarize, Globelink's poll sets out to highlight the most dangerous and safest countries in Europe in order to emphasize the necessity of being aware about countries that contain hidden danger.
